Maths
At Belmont C of E Primary school we aim to ensure that all children become fluent in the fundamentals of Maths, are able to reason mathematically using mathematical language and can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems. Furthermore, we aim to develop; a conceptual understanding, curiosity and enjoyment of maths. It is our hope that our curriculum will spark a love of Maths and encourage exploration and questioning.
At Belmont, these skills develop consistently over time and are embedded within the daily Maths lesson.
It is our intent to:
- Ensure our children have access to a high-quality Maths curriculum that teaches children how to make sense of the world around them through developing their ability to calculate, reason and solve problems.
 - Develop mathematical vocabulary to present mathematical justifications, arguments or proof.
 - Ensure our children are able to recognise that Maths is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.
 - Foster positive attitudes so that all children can achieve in Maths.
 - Give our children opportunities to fully understand Maths and be successful.
