Science

At Belmont, our science curriculum aims to nurture children’s natural curiosity about the world and foster a lifelong interest in scientific discovery. It provides a foundation of key scientific knowledge and skills aligned with the National Curriculum, ensuring progression across biology, chemistry, and physics. Through engaging, hands-on investigations, children develop an understanding of how science explains phenomena, predicts outcomes, and impacts everyday life.

Our curriculum encourages pupils to “work scientifically” by asking questions, making observations, gathering evidence, and drawing conclusions. This enquiry-based approach builds resilience, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Lessons are designed to be inclusive, stimulating, and relevant, linking scientific learning to real-world contexts and cross-curricular themes such as sustainability, health, and technology.

We place strong emphasis on vocabulary development, enabling children to articulate their ideas clearly and use scientific language with confidence. Outdoor learning and practical experiences are central, helping pupils connect theory with practice and develop respect for the natural environment.

By the end of primary school, pupils are equipped with a secure understanding of key concepts, the ability to think scientifically, and the curiosity to continue exploring science in secondary education and beyond.
